- My uncle asked me this question as I was handing him our wedding invitation.
My answer: Definitely Commitment. What is Love anyway?

Personally, I think Love is overrated. Granted, Love is vital in any relationship. Family relations, friendships, marriages etc - they are all based on love. But a marriage without commitment is doomed from the start.
Just think: How often have we taken the people we love for granted? Made rude remarks, snapped at them etc. It is to people we love that we show our ugliest side - we cry, we shout at each other, we fight and we know that come tomorrow, everything will be right again.
Living with a spouse is not only about whether you are comfortable being who you are, whether you believe that the person will love you despite your faults. It is about making an effort - to give in to someone else's needs, to tolerate another's differences, to support and to be responsible. All these take more than LOVE.
And when Love fades away, the romance and passion has died down, it is COMMITMENT that will keep the relationship going. The commitment to never walk out when the going gets tough. The commitment to not look for the easy way out. The commitment to not forsake your partner for the next person that brings butterflies to your stomach and raises your heartbeat.
T and I are poles apart - the language, religion, cultural, geographical barriers will be the greatest obstacle and while LOVE is what keeps us together, our commitment to each other is what will make our marriage strong.
Our commitment to tolerate each other's differences, to work things out whenever there's any disagreement, to be loyal and faithful to each other, to love each other through the good and bad times, and most of all... our commitment to never give up when things go wrong.
(that's why they say Marriage is a very big step - be sure you are ready to commit before you take the plunge)
